Dubai is set to introduce a groundbreaking underground transportation system with the Dubai Loop, a project developed in collaboration with Elon Musk’s The Boring Company. Announced at the World Government Summit 2025, the Dubai Loop is designed to enhance urban mobility by providing seamless, high-speed travel across the city’s most densely populated areas.
A Visionary Project for the Future
The agreement signed between Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and The Boring Company outlines the development of a 17-kilometer network with 11 stations, designed to transport up to 20,000 passengers per hour. The system will allow travelers to move across the city at speeds of up to 160 km/h, with direct connections between stations and no intermediate stops.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, emphasized that the Dubai Loop project reflects the city’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and efficiency. The project aims to set new benchmarks in urban connectivity while minimizing environmental impact through a fully electric, zero-emission transport system.
Elon Musk’s Vision and Technological Advancements
During a virtual session at the World Government Summit, Elon Musk described the Dubai Loop as a “wormhole,” allowing passengers to enter from one location and arrive at another in minutes. He also highlighted the advantages of underground transit over aerial solutions, which can be affected by weather conditions, noise, and wind disturbances.
Dubai’s Commitment to Sustainable Mobility
The Dubai Loop is the latest in a series of transport innovations recently announced by the city. Other projects include:
• RAILBUS, a mass transit system powered by solar energy
• Seaglider, a high-speed transport mode that will connect Dubai and Abu Dhabi in just 30 minutes
Under the leadership of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai continues to redefine the future of urban mobility. The Dubai Loop is expected to play a key role in the city’s long-term vision for sustainable and efficient transportation, reinforcing its status as a global hub for technological advancement.
As the project progresses, further details on construction timelines and operational features will be revealed.
